šŸ’ Soul Snacks

My Summer favorites

3 min read

Dear Snackers,

I donā€™t know about everyone else, but the older I get, the more regimented Iā€™ve become. Maybe ā€œregimentedā€ isnā€™t the right word, but I have certain shit that I like and would be upset if, for example, I forgot to pack on vacation. I figured Iā€™d share them ā€“ Iā€™m doing jazz hands and singing, ā€œThese are a few of my faaaavorite things!ā€

  1. Gem Daily Essentials ā€“ These are pretty much the food version of vitamins. I really donā€™t know quite how to describe it, but it is a bite sized chewy thing, almost like a very dense cookie texture, and itā€™s very tasty and full of all kinds of shit thatā€™s good for you. Itā€™s got a pumpkin, ginger, turmeric, seed flavor and is loaded with vitamins to help with energy, skin, immune support, brain health, you name it, it helps. I typically try to get the nutrients I need from my diet and donā€™t take a lot of other vitamins, so the reason why I started taking these is because it is actually edible, so I figure it gets absorbed a lot more efficiently. Anywho, I friggin love em (this is not a paid brand endorsement btw; theyā€™re just that good).

  1. All natural deodorants ā€“  Iā€™ve become pretty committed to using clean products whenever possible and, even though I sweat a LOT, I donā€™t like an antiperspirant. Something about trapping sweat inside that wants to pour out doesnā€™t sit right with me. Iā€™d consider it for a special occasion if I canā€™t risk being Patty Pit Stain, but on the daily, I let it flow. I figure maybe using natural products might also balance out the damage of my weekend cocktails? Maybe not? Either way, itā€™s gotta be better for me than the other shit? I change brands every now and again because I find that, with all deodorants, I start to build up some kind of resistance, but right now I am using Native Deodorant Lilac and White Tea scent and holy shit it smells SO good. I have used several other scents of theirs which I have liked, but this scent is something special.

  1. Magnesium - Now, I know I just said I donā€™t take many other vitamins, but the one other vitamin, or supplement rather, that I take daily is a Magnesium complex. I once did a podcast episode on perimenopause with a popular Instagram OB named Shieva Ghofrany, sheā€™s wonderful and insanely beloved by her patients, and one of the top things she recommends for perimenopausal women is a Magnesium supplement which is supposed to help quite a bit with sleep, brain health and hormonal balance. Does it help me with my perimenopause symptoms? I honestly donā€™t fucking know. I certainly still feel like a lunatic a couple of days out of the month and there are usually a few days in the week leading up to my period that I am awake a lot at night, but again, I figure there is a decent amount of research on itā€™s benefits and that it canā€™t hurt. I take two Magtech Magnesium Complex pills right before bed and my friend who is a health coach told me itā€™s a really good brand.

  1. Leggings - You know how old people tend to dress in clothing that is reflective of what was in fashion when they were younger adults? Like at some point they become uncomfortable dressing with the trends and just say, ā€œfuck it, I will go to the grave in this three quarter length top and cropped pant.ā€ Well thatā€™s how I think our generation might be with athleisure. Iā€™ve said it before but my absolute favorite legging on the market for itā€™s quality, affordability, and POCKETS are the Old Navy Powersoft Leggings. I wear the full length and they are perfect for me because I am quite tall (5ā€™10ā€) but I imagine women of average height would prefer the 7/8 length. Here are the ones that I am literally wearing as I type this:

  1. Electrolytes - I hate to yap about brands that I work with too much because itā€™s not in my nature to be overly ā€œinfluencer-yā€ but Iā€™ll say it ā€˜til I am blue in the face: I drink a Cure electrolyte packet every. single. day. You can drink whatever brand you want, but Cure is delicious, and I feel so well hydrated. New Blood Orange flavor just dropped too (use code BTA20 for your discount).

  1. Half Zip Sweatshirt ā€“ This doesnā€™t count as a ā€œdaily essentialā€, but one of the trendier things Iā€™m loving these days are half zip sweatshirts. I just splurged on this one from Varley ā€“ I went with the Mushroom color and I LOVE it. Itā€™s not made of your typical sweatshirt material, so I imagine it will hold its shape, color and texture for a long while. I had this half zip from Old Navy, and I liked it, but I stained the shit out of it. If I buy it again, though, I will definitely size up because it was really cropped and more fitted than I wanted.

OK, that concludes this somewhat unusual round up for me. Weā€™re girls, though, what can I say, we all love this shit.
